MONARA is in Apgujeong, one minute on foot from Exit 4 of Apgujeong Station on Line 3 — the district Seoul patients themselves travel to for hair restoration.
Send photographs of the front, the crown and the donor area at the back, along with a short description of how the loss has progressed and how long it has been going on. A preliminary opinion and a realistic graft band can be given from that, so you are not travelling on a guess. The final plan is set in person on the day.
The operation is one day. Surgical patients are seen again the following day for a wound check, dressing and the foam shampoo demonstration, so two nights is the practical minimum. Staying to the one-week check is better where the schedule allows it, because that is when graft take and medication are reviewed.
At least four hours without food beforehand, for safe sleep sedation. Essential medication such as blood pressure or thyroid tablets may be taken with a little water; diabetes medication should not. Come in loose clothing that opens with buttons or a zip, bring a loose hat — a bucket hat, hiking cap, bandana or hooded top rather than a baseball cap or beanie — and use public transport or bring someone with you rather than driving yourself.
The aftercare programme is scheduled at one day, one week, one month, four months, eight months and one year. Patients who cannot return for all of it are given the written protocol and the schedule, and the visits that matter most are agreed before you leave. Crusts are removed gradually from day ten; colouring and perming wait four weeks.
