Scar tissue has less blood supply than healthy scalp, so grafts placed in it take at a lower rate and have to be placed at a lower density than they would be elsewhere. The commonest case is the linear scar left by an older strip operation, but surgical and traumatic scars are treated the same way. Where the tissue is poor, the work is staged deliberately rather than forced into one session.

The scar is assessed before a graft count is givenThickness, mobility and vascularity of the scar decide the density that is realistic. Promising native density into scar tissue would be dishonest.

Can a strip scar be made invisible?

It can usually be made much harder to see, by grafting into it, by micropigmentation, or by both. Complete erasure is not something any clinic can promise.

Does hair grow normally in a scar?
