Advanced loss needs graft numbers that only work if extraction, dissection and placement run continuously for a full day — which is the reason for the one-case-a-day rule. Where the back of the scalp cannot supply enough, or where the donor hair there is fine or already thinned, beard and body hair can be harvested to add volume. Body hair differs from scalp hair in calibre and growth cycle, so it is placed where those differences do not show.

It is coarser and behaves differently, which is exactly why it is placed in the crown and mid-scalp rather than the hairline, and blended with scalp grafts.

Is one large session better than two smaller ones?

For coverage, generally yes — one anaesthetic, one recovery, one healing period. For a donor area that cannot support it, no. The assessment decides.
