The female hairline runs from the forehead through the temples to the sideburn, and it is the frame the rest of the face is read against. Lowering and rounding it shortens the forehead and narrows the upper face, which is why this operation is usually about proportion rather than hair loss. It is almost always performed non-shaven, because the donor area cannot be visible.

The line is drawn against your face, not a templateFrontal and profile proportion are both considered before a single graft is placed. A line that looks correct head-on and wrong in profile is the commonest failure.
Irregularity on purposeA natural frontal line is not a smooth curve. Single follicles are placed in a deliberately uneven leading edge, with density building behind it.

Will anyone be able to tell?

The donor area is not clipped, so there is nothing to see at the back. At the front, small crusts are present for about ten days and are then removed gradually.

Is this different from a man's hairline transplant?

The technique is the same; the design is not. A female line is lower, rounder and continuous with the temples, where a male line is set higher with defined corners.
